A simple and classic rich Hakata ramen. Personally, I like the white one.
Hakata’s rich tonkotsu ramen was absolutely amazing! The thick, creamy broth was incredibly rich, hitting you with intense umami from the very first sip. The deep pork bone flavor was perfectly absorbed by the noodles, making every bite just divine. I simply couldn’t stop drinking the soup!
The chashu was especially impressive—thick, juicy, and packed with flavor. The slight char from being grilled added an extra layer of smokiness, and every bite was bursting with meaty goodness. Eating it together with the ramen made it even better, leaving me fully satisfied. This was seriously a game-changer, worthy of updating my ranking of the best ramen in Tenjin!
The white tonkotsu ramen had an incredibly rich taste, capturing my heart every time I ate it. The combination of the creamy, mellow broth and the punchy pork flavor was completely addictive—I was totally hooked! Every sip of the soup filled me with happiness, thanks to the deep, savory umami of the pork bone broth.
I also tried the black ramen, which had a much bolder, roasted flavor. The addition of black garlic oil gave it an extra depth, making it an entirely different experience from the white one. I can see why it’s so popular, but for me, the white ramen is still the best. The pure, rich tonkotsu flavor is unbeatable, and I just couldn’t resist drinking every last drop of the soup.
Next time, I’m definitely going for a large size to fully enjoy it my way. Ramen is best when you eat to your heart’s content! After indulging in this ultra-rich Hakata tonkotsu ramen, I know I’ll be coming back for more!
Devilishly delicious! If you get the chance, you must try the “Half Mayo Chashu Rice Bowl”!
The half mayo chashu rice bowl that comes with the B lunch at Shōmaru is simply irresistible! The savory chashu, the sweetness of the sauce, and the creamy richness of the mayo combine perfectly with the rice. With every bite, happiness spreads, and you can’t help but think, “This is really delicious!”
It’s fascinating how the flavors come together even better when paired with the ramen. The savory depth of the chashu, the rich sauce, and the smoothness of the mayo intertwine so perfectly, and you just can’t stop eating the rice. I love this dish so much that there are times I’ll visit Shōmaru just for it.
The value for money is unbeatable, with the ramen and half mayo chashu rice bowl set costing only 850 yen—it’s truly a devilish level of satisfaction. The portion is generous, and though it might feel a little indulgent, that’s exactly what makes it so addictive. It’s perfect when you’re craving a hearty meal, leaving you completely satisfied and full.
If you’re looking for a delicious bowl of ramen in Tenjin, Shōmaru is definitely the place to go. Especially the half mayo chashu rice bowl in the B lunch set—it’s a taste you won’t forget after trying it, so be sure to give it a try!
Taking on the Red Ramen!
A hidden gem in Tenjin, on the Oyafukodori street, Ramen shop “Shōmaru” not only serves delicious classic ramen but also offers the spicy red ramen, which is incredibly appealing! If you love spicy ramen, this is definitely a dish you need to try.
Even if you’re someone who doesn’t typically eat spicy food, don’t worry. The basic level of spice, 1-spicy, isn’t that intense, so even those who aren’t used to spice can comfortably enjoy it. The rich umami of the broth mixes perfectly with a mild spice that becomes addictive, blending harmoniously with the smoothness of the flavor.
If you’re looking for a little more kick, I highly recommend trying 2-spicy. From level 2 onwards, the spice really kicks in, and with every bite, you’ll feel a slow burn and the pleasure of sweat starting to form. I’m already looking forward to challenging myself with 2-spicy next time!
What’s great about Shōmaru’s red ramen is that it’s not just about the spice—it adds a level of heat while still preserving the deliciousness of the ramen itself. It’s the perfect balance of spice and flavor, a must-try for ramen lovers.
If you’re looking to enjoy a different kind of ramen in Tenjin, want to challenge your spice tolerance, or just want a hearty meal at a great price, Shōmaru is highly recommended. It’s the perfect spot for both spicy ramen fans and those looking to try spicy ramen for the first time!
Atmosphere of the Shop
I had lunch at the ramen shop “Shōmaru” located in a narrow alley off Tenjin’s Oka-kaka-dori!
It’s in a slightly hidden spot, so you might not come across it easily if you didn’t know about it, but hidden gems are often in places like this.
The shop’s exterior has an old-fashioned feel in a good way, and entering it was a bit nerve-wracking, but waiting inside were ramen and mayo-char siu rice with an unbeatable cost-performance and devilishly delicious taste.
Inside the shop, there are manga books lined up, giving it a nostalgic ramen shop atmosphere.
It was the perfect place to go when you’re craving a hearty meal!
