Amazing Tuna in a Beautiful Sashimi Platter (with Fresh Sea Urchin)

This luxurious sashimi platter was the star of the evening.
The highlight was definitely the fatty tuna from the head – so rich and buttery it left us speechless.
The generous amount of fresh sea urchin was also a nice touch.
・Cuttlefish with sea urchin
・Wild amberjack
・Striped jack
・Seared Spanish mackerel
・Fatty tuna (from the head)
・Seared grunt
・Sea bream
All the sashimi were incredibly fresh and beautifully prepared. I wanted to savor every bite.
Chef’s Choice Kamameshi

The kamameshi featured white fish and salmon roe.
The freshly cooked rice soaked up all the umami from the fish and the salty burst of roe — it was the perfect way to end the meal.
It was so good, I couldn’t resist getting a second serving.
My companion even said it was the best kamameshi they’ve ever had.
Grilled Salted Beef Tongue

Perfectly chewy but not tough, with a deep savory flavor.
Lightly salted, it made me quietly whisper “delicious…” with every bite.
Firefly Squid (Appetizer)

The first dish was a seasonal treat – tender firefly squid.
Its gentle bitterness whetted the appetite.
The squid liver was so flavorful, it could easily stand alone as a dish. It paired beautifully with their house-made lemon sour.
Potato Salad

A comforting, mild dish.
With bits of bacon and natural flavors shining through, you could feel the care put into it.
Grilled Shiitake Mushrooms

Large and juicy mushrooms with a hint of yuzu fragrance.
Seasoned simply with salt, they really showed the quality of the ingredients.
Grilled Scallops with Butter

The sweet richness of the scallops and the aroma of butter were a heavenly combination.
Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside — perfect with a drink.
Grilled Spanish Mackerel with Salt

Beautifully charred skin with a slightly rare center.
Tender and flaky, the clean yet rich taste reminded me how amazing grilled fish can be.
About Tokoshie

The drink menu is extensive.
I had their special lemon sour, which was fantastic – highly recommended.
The food is all Japanese cuisine, and everything was appealing.
A Hidden Izakaya with No Public Address

Tokoshie is a discreet Japanese restaurant tucked away on the second floor of an apartment in a quiet area of Daimyo, Fukuoka.
There’s no sign out front, giving it the feel of a secret spot.
Inside, there are just six counter seats and one table. With black walls and soft lighting, the space feels serene and calming.
From the moment you sit down, the atmosphere makes you sit up straight and take in the moment.
The staff are polite and friendly, making it easy to relax.
The owner prepares all the food alone, yet everything comes out at the perfect time, making the experience smooth and enjoyable.
Tokoshie opened in late autumn 2024.
They specialize in Japanese dishes using seasonal ingredients sourced from all over Kyushu.
Each dish reflects careful craftsmanship and respect for the ingredients.
